About Genesis House

For over 42 years, Genesis House has provided emergency shelter to women and children fleeing gender-based violence. With space for up to 16 individuals, our five-bedroom shelter offers a safe haven - at no cost to residents - along with essential services like counselling, support groups, safety planning, advocacy, and education. But emergency shelter is just the beginning.

Clearwater Place is our new transitional housing project, set to open Spring 2027. It will complement our emergency response by housing survivors of domestic violence for 1-2 years. During this time they will receive all the support they need to secure longer-term, stable, and supportive housing as they rebuild their lives.

You can help make this vision a reality by joining us for the Ride for Refuge, on October 3rd. Whether you ride, walk, donate, or start a team, your participation helps build a future where every survivor has not just a safe night - but a safe next step.

What to Bring

A few common sense suggestions:

  • A cell phone for emergencies (recommended but not required)
  • Your bike and helmet or walking shoes
  • Extra snacks if you have allergies or food sensitivities
  • Your own water bottle
  • Warm layers with moisture-repelling clothing. Early October weather can be cool, with rain and wind. The weather might also be gorgeous and sunny. So be sure to keep your eye on the forecast.
